Project Area: 8,460.30 sqm

Collaborators: Grupo JG, Instalaciones

Budget: € 11.096.393

The project consists of the design of the Plaza Pere Torrent, the construction of an 8.000m2 building and its integration with the surrounding Paseo de la Riera and access to Lloret’s old town.

The program was an ambitious one: the building had to accommodate the local municipal library, a multiuse hall, a children’s play centre, a meeting room, an adult learning centre, a day centre for the aged and the offices for social services.

In an altitude of deliberate self appraisal, the house situated in the north western part of Bahrain in an area called Hamala shoots up from its entry point at western side and forms almost an iconic structure of twin slopes , recognisable from far away . The western side protects it from the extreme sun in summer. An extension on the north eastern side houses a few bedrooms+deck .The landscape is well integrated with the various changing levels of the inside, designed on split levels where nothing is very far away, and every level opening into its landscaped area and part of the house is dugged in to escape the summer heat and part of the house sits a top the ground with lots of glass to enjoy the winter .The service areas are arranged in the centre of the house and all the living areas and bedrooms are in the peripheral areas to make maximum usage of light, ventilation views, etc

design two ecological houses. The building block consists of 18 houses, designed by different architects. There are no regulations of the beauty commission, so the future owners are free to design their house, as long as it fits within the provided building envelope

The density of the area is high and the width of the street is minimal. To provide its inhabitants with maximal daylight during the day, a so-called ‘canyon’ is introduced. The canyon flows through the house and encloses the stairs. It’s orientated in a way that light falls to the lower floors.

This new campus takes a contextual approach, integrating physically, culturally, and historically with Beirut’s urban tissue. Conceptually an urban block with sculpted voids, the building’s hollow spaces define six autonomous blocks and construct multiple viewpoints across Beirut, connecting students to their dynamic setting. The voids also generate a street-level meeting space, which flows fluidly to the top floor in the form of a massive staircase. It concludes at a landscaped terrace overlooking the city. Light is a vital element in oriental architecture and one that shapes its style and identity; the campus exposes alternate light qualities through Moucharabieh-inspired perforations and a polycarbonate volume. Such manipulation presents a striking contrast in filtered light and luminescence. A stylized random-opening treatment is a snapshot of the Lebanese War, lending a poetic glimpse into the reality of destruction and violence
