Cementite is very hard and brittle constituents. When fractured, white cast iron gives bright white surface. It contains C = 2-3.5%, Si = 0.5-1.5%, Mn = 0.2-0.8%, S Properties:-- White cast iron is hard and brittle.- It is not machine able.- It has excellent abrasive/ wear resistance.- Shrinkage 1/8 inch/ft (.i.e. 1mm/100mm).- If cast iron rapidly cooled in mould than free carbon will go in combine form (.i.e. Fe3C) and give rice to white cast iron.- By using fairly low silicon content, cast iron may be made to solidify as white iron.- White iron castings can be made in sand moulds.- White cast iron also be made on the surface of a gray iron casting provided the material is of special composition.- The solidification range of White Cast iron is 2550-2065 °F. Application:-- White cast iron is raw material for the production of malleable cast iron.- For manufacturing those components which are hard and wear resistant. 2 لینک به دیدگاه
