Mechanical Properties:-



It is the behavior of material under the action of external forces. It can be determine by conducting mechanical test on material.


1. Elasticity:-
It is property of material to deform under applied load and returns back to its original shape after removal of load. Such property is called “Elasticity” and such material is called “Elastic material.


2. Plasticity:-
It is the property of material to deform under applied load and remains in given shape after removal of load such property is called “Plasticity” and such material is called “Plastic” material.


3. Mechanical Strength:-
The ability of material to sustain load with out fracture is called “Mechanical Strength”.


4. Ductility:-
The ability of material to undergo deformation under tension with failure is called “Ductility” and such material is called “Ductile “material.


5. Malleability:-
The ability of material to undergo deformation under compression with out failure is called “Malleability” and material is called “Malleable material”.


6. Brittleness:-
If material is loaded for bending and it breaks instead of bending is called “brittleness" and material is called “Brittle” material.


7. Hardness:-
The ability of material to with stand scratching, wear and indentation is called its “Hardness”.


8. Stiffness:-
The ability of material to resist elastic deformation. A material which deforms less under a given load is more stiff then which deforms more.


9. Resilience:-
The ability of material to exhibit elastic recovery is called “Resliance”.


10. Toughness:-
If material is hard and ductile then its property is called “Toughness”.


11. Impact Strength:-
The ability of material to with stand dynamic loads with out fracture.


12. Tensile Strength:-
The ability of material to with stand tensile load with out fracture.


13. Compression Strength:-
The ability of material to with stand squeezing loads with out fracture.


14. Shear Strength:-
The ability of material to with stand shear loads with out fracture.
